COURSE DESCRIPTION & PURPOSE

Sacramental catechesis, which is both preparatory and ongoing, seeks to enable a deeper understanding and commitment to an active and worthily celebrated sacramental life. Its reception and fruitfulness are therefore vital – for, 'in the Eucharist and in all the sacraments we are guaranteed the possibility of encountering the Lord Jesus and of having the power of his Paschal Mystery reach us' [Francis (2022), Apostolic Letter on the Liturgical Formation of the People of God, Desiderio Desideravi (DD), 11].

This course seeks to provide participants with:

· an overview of the nature and purpose of sacraments in general

· some general principles for sacramental catechesis

· an appreciation and understanding of catechesis for the sacraments

Topics covered in the four sessions include: -

Session 1 – Intro to the Sacraments in General

Session 2 – Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation

Session 3 – Sacraments of the Eucharist and Penance and Reconciliation

*Session 4 – Sacraments of the Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders and Matrimony [New!]
