Formation of Children & Youth Catechists, RCIA and LOWC Facilitators and Sponsors

The Catechism of the Catholic Church points us to the realization that catechesis is a craft – that catechists are being called to be “apprenticed in the Lord’s own school” to learn principles and how to work out this craft.

The Office for Catechesis conducts courses throughout the year, primarily for catechists; however, those not presently in the catechetical ministries are also welcome to attend.

  • Catechetical Coordinators should complete the Archdiocesan Catechetical Coordinator Course.
  • Catechists for the Pre-primary and Primary Levels should complete the Basic Catechist Course Level 1.
  • Catechists for youths and adults should complete the Basic Catechist Course Levels 1 & 2.

Aim: To introduce participants to thefundamentals in Catechetical theory & praxis

  • What is Catechesis?
  • The Method of Faith – Jesus Christ
  • The Content of Faith –   The Catechism of the Catholic Church  
  • The Subject of Faith – Christian Man
  • The Sources of Faith I – Liturgy
  • The Sources of Faith II – Scripture
  • The Craft of Catechesis


Prerequisite for attending the ACCC:

  • Candidate must be a Parish Catechist Coordinator of children, youth and adults or RCIA Coordinator or LOWC Coordinator or a member of the Parish Catechetical / RCIA  /LOWC Core Team,
  • Candidate must be proficient in English with the ability to synthesize concepts into written and verbal form
  • Candidate must be invest time and effort in the course, including active participation in the sessions and attendance at BOTH retreats

BCC Modules
Elective Courses

Prerequisites for attending the BCC:

  • Participants must be at least 18 years of age. 
  • For BCC Level 2 Certificate, participants must have attended all Level 1 modules with at least 80% attendance before they can receive their Level 2 Certificate assuming the Level 2 modules have been completed. 
  • All modules for each level should be completed within a period of 3 years in order to receive the certificate.
