All beauty can be a path that helps lead to the encounter with God (Pontifical Council for Promoting New Evangelisation, Directory for Catechesis (DC) 108). The way of evangelisation is the way of beauty, and therefore every form of beauty is a source of catechesis (DC 109). By attending to the ‘way of beauty’ (via pulchritrudinis) and being open to the infinite beauty of God expressed in the works of human beings, we seek to lead those who are catechised toward the beautiful gift that the Father has made in His Son (cf. DC 108-109).
This course seeks to:
introduce participants to the use of art and visual journaling as another tool for catechesis,
invite participants to consider how the use of imagery might support catechesis as well as the disposition required to facilitate responses through visual journaling,
provide participants the opportunity to have a first-hand experience in visual journaling.
Thia Hwei Ming, Teresa, MAAT, AThR.
Teresa is an accredited art psychotherapist with the Australian, New Zealand and Asian Creative Arts Therapies Association (ANZACATA). She serves as part-time faculty on the Art Therapy Masters programme at LASALLE College of the Arts, and also practiced as an art psychotherapist at the Institute of Mental Health where she provided attachment-informed psychodynamic art therapy to support her patients' varying needs. Prior to this, Teresa devoted over a decade working with young people both as a Full Time School Counsellor under the Ministry of Education, and as a Youth Worker in her parish.
