The sacraments of Christian initiation constitute a unity because “they establish the foundations of Christian life”
- Directory for Catechesis 70
This workshop aims to provide a reflective and dialogical space for catechists to explore the meaning and practice of the Confirmation retreat. Together, participants will engage key questions such as:
What is the purpose of a retreat, and what role does it play in the faith journey towards the Sacrament of Confirmation?
How can a Confirmation retreat be thoughtfully planned to support this journey?
What is the role of the catechist, and how can catechists collaborate effectively with partners in ministry, such as youth ministry teams and parents, in planning and conducting a Confirmation retreat?
The workshop will be conducted in the context of retreats proposed in the OFC Youth Curriculum. However, catechists not using the curriculum are also welcomed to attend.
Participants are strongly encouraged to bring along a copy of their parish’s Confirmation retreat programme for hands-on engagement during the workshop. Where possible, catechists are also invited to attend together with representatives from the youth and/or young adult ministries with whom they collaborate on the retreat.
To present the OFC model for confirmation preparation and its rationale.
To provide guidance and space for dialogue on planning Confirmation retreat, using available OFC materials as reference to touch on areas such as flow of programme, recruiting and preparing a service team.
To appreciate the roles of the various partners in the Confirmation journey and discuss ways to collaborate with them.
