“Catechesis initiates believers into the mystery of communion as lived, not only in relationship with the Father through Christ in the Spirit, but also in the community of believers through the work of the same Spirit. In educating for communion, catechesis educates for living in the Church and as the Church.”
Directory for Catechesis (2020), 176
When we speak of “the Church”, who are we referring to? Are we talking about the pope and the bishops, the clergy, or do we include ourselves in it?
What is the Church? A building, an ideology, a sacrament? All of them?
When we profess our faith in the one, holy, Catholic, and apostolic Church, what are believing in actually?
Come hear the answers to these questions, and more, to better equip ourselves as catechists to educate believers for “living in the Church and as the Church”.
This course aims to provide catechists with a basic understanding of Church through five topics:
The Church and Vatican II
The Church and Salvation
Models of the Church
The Church is One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic
The Church and Synodality
