This four-session elective aims to raise awareness of the history of the Catholic Church in Singapore and to help participants discover more about our local Church’s heritage. It also seeks to encourage catechists to create prayer spaces that honour our local Catholic culture. To deepen appreciation of our local Church’s history, the programme will include PIMBY* —a guided tour of historical sites—followed by a time of reflection on each participant’s own faith experience in relation to the site or person featured in the pilgrimage.
A few of the interesting topics that this course may delve into include: -
How and when did the Catholic faith reach the shores of Southeast Asia?
What roles did the Catholic Church play in the building of Singapore as a nation?
How does my church continue this mission in the present day?
How does our heritage inform us about the way we can echo the faith in the years to come?
