8 Sessions - Evening
Wednesdays | 30 September | 7, 14, 21, 28 October | 4, 11, 18 November 2026
7:30 pm to 10:00 pm (Registration starts at 7:00 pm)
Church of St Vincent De Paul
301 Yio Chu Kang Rd, Singapore 805910
The Church explains clearly what is required of the catechumens as they progress through each period and step (cf. RCIA 6, CCC 1230 and 1232) and exhorts that catechesis be handed on in an organic and systematic way, with a view of initiating the hearers into the fullness of Christian life (CCC 5). Therefore, the catechetical aspect of the RCIA requires an adult model that faithfully proposes the Truth, allows questions and time for reflection and invites a response in the form of a closer adherence of Jesus Christ and His Church (Association for Catechumenal Ministry, A Guide to Navigating the Order of Christian Initiation for Adults).
Taking into consideration the pre-requisites necessary for maturing to the next step of the RCIA journey as well as the characteristics of the divine pedagogy, the course seeks to equip those with a) theoretical knowledge and b) the practical applications of catechesis as follows:
a. Theoretical knowledge of:
the aim, nature, and purpose of catechesis
the pedagogy of God and the 12 characteristics of catechesis
the Ecclesial Method and the Elements of Human Methodologies
the Planes of Development of children and youths and how this affects the way faith is handed to them
the flow of content vs. the Periods and Steps in the RCIA process so that the faith may be presented systematically and organically
b. Practical applications of catechesis through opportunities to:
learn how to use the Catechism of the Catholic Church^
craft reflection questions
experience how presentations are to be offered in the prayer space through demonstration by trainers
participate in group presentations and learn from their peers
