This course, which consists of theoretical and practical application components, will introduce participants to the method of teaching as proposed by the Universal Church.
To equip catechists with theoretical knowledge (a) and practical applications of catechesis (b):
(a) Theoretical knowledge of:
the Aim and Purpose of Catechesis^
the Pedagogy of God and the 12 Characteristics of Catechesis^
the Catechetical Methodologies
the Ecclesial Method
the planes of development of children and youth of different age groups and how this affects the way faith is handed to them^
the Archdiocesan Catechetical curricula overview
(b) Practical applications of catechesis by providing them with the opportunities to:
learn how to use the Catechism of the Catholic Church^
craft reflection questions
experience how presentations are to be offered in the prayer space through demonstration by trainers
participate in group presentations using existing session plans and learn from their peers
Pre-requisites for access to Children’s Curriculum (Foundation Year to Level 6) : -
100% attendance met for FCC: Intro to Catechetical Pedagogy & Catechetical Methods (Children’s Track).
Participation during group work (Sessions 2 & 3)
Written reflection paper given out during FCC: ICP&CM course duly submitted.
Pre-requisites for access to Youth Curriculum (Level 7 to Level 10): -
100% attendance met for FCC: Intro to Catechetical Pedagogy & Catechetical Methods (Youth Track)
Participation during group work (Sessions 2 & 3)
Written reflection paper given out during FCC: ICP&CM course duly submitted
100% attendance met for FCC: Learning to Listen and Facilitate course
Highly Recommended requirement for Youth Catechesis:
Sufficient facilitators sent for FCC: Learning to Listen and Facilitate course based on proposed ratio of 12 youths to 1 facilitator as well as 100% attendance met for course by facilitators.
Note:
^ Participants who had previously completed Parish Team Training or Introduction to Catechetical Pedagogy (before 2019) are encouraged to attend the course as a refresher as new content has been added. If you need further clarifications, please drop us a mail at formation.ofc@catholic.org.sg
