The Launch of the Catechetical Year is a treasured moment for our community of catechists to gather, give thanks, and look ahead with renewed hope. This year, the programme of the launch includes a Eucharistic Celebration with His Eminence, William Cardinal Goh. During the Eucharistic Celebration, His Eminence will also be commissioning the Catechetical Leaders of Children, Youth and RCIA ministries and blessing all the Catechists.

In 2026, we move on from the theme of "Embracing Hope" to the theme of "A Vibrant Community that Celebrates." This year is especially meaningful as the Office For Catechesis celebrates its 10th Anniversary, a decade since taking on the mantle from our predecessors in the catechetical offices within SPI and ONE.

Emerging from the jubilee year of hope, there is much to be thankful for. In the last ten years, we witnessed over 25,000 attend our courses and have over 1000 active users of our catechetical resources weekly. We survived and thrived during a period of uncertainty that COVID-19 brought us and learned many valuable lessons from it. Many communities in support of catechesis, like the Bridging Programme, the befrienders for Special Needs Catechesis, and initiatives complementing the catechetical ecosystem, like the district Kidz Bible Camps, were also borne out of this decade.  

Thus, the theme of "A Vibrant Community that Celebrates" befits the occasion as we celebrate this unity of our purpose in our diverse giftedness. It invites reflection on how catechesis is not only a celebration of the faith journey of our candidates but a celebration of our catechetical community in handing on the faith. We celebrate the vibrance seen through the varied endeavours of our community; be it the catechists and facilitators in the weekly catechetical sessions, or the befrienders of the candidates with special needs, or the sponsors of the faith initiation ministries for the adults, and how the ministry has grown and borne fruits within the Church and beyond.
