The First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion retreat proposed by OFC is an integral part of the catechetical process toward preparing the candidates for the reception of the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation as well as the Sacrament of the Eucharist. This workshop aims to provide catechists with an overview of the essential components of the retreat as well as equip catechists with tips and ideas for organizing this retreat.
As we share our FR/FHC retreat experience from the Bridging Programme in this workshop, participants will:
learn how to plan a 3-day retreat and be provided with a sample retreat schedule, be shown samples of materials used for children, which include First Missal booklets, Reconciliation booklets, FHC banners, etc.
be shown retreat activity materials such as Psalm walk cards, prayer station materials, as well as gallery walk materials,
explore how to prepare children for reconciliation using Maxims for the examination of conscience.

A prior understanding of our archdiocesan children’s curriculum is recommended, as activities and materials proposed for the retreat aim to help the children further deepen their understanding of what has been offered in catechetical sessions prior to the retreat.
In the event that the team preparing children for the sacraments is new, please send at least a representative from your parish to explore how we can prepare the children for their First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion.
