As catechists, it is sometimes difficult to articulate answers when it comes to questions of faith. This course will address the following topics:
Session 1: The existence of God, Reconciling science and the faith, e.g. The Theory of Evolution and the Creation story
How do we know God is real?
If God is good, how come there is evil and suffering in the world?
How come what we learn in science contradicts the Bible, e.g. Creation story VS the Big Bang, Theory of Evolution?
Session 2: The Christ in history, the truth of Christianity
Is Jesus really God?
Aren’t all religions the same? Why should I be Christian?
Did Jesus really start the Catholic Church?
Session 3: The tenets of the Catholic faith I - Mary and the Communion of Saints, The papacy and Apostolic Succession
Why do Catholics ‘worship’ Mary?
Why do we pray to the saints when we can pray directly to God?
Why do Catholics have a pope?
Why must we listen to the Pope?
Session 4: The tenets of the Catholic faith II - How to speak of the relevance of the Catholic faith in today’s world
How is the Catholic faith still relevant to my life today?
Why should I remain Catholic when there are so many scandals in the Church?
Can non-Catholics go to Heaven?
The course seeks to:
Inspire catechists to be excited about their faith and
Equip them to always be prepared to give a reason for the hope that they have (cf. 1 Peter 3:15) by addressing questions of faith
